Former Tipra Motha chairman offers aid to flood-affected families

In response to the devastating floods that struck Tripura from August 19 to August 24, former Tipra Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has pledged financial aid of Rs 50,000 to the families of those who lost their lives.

The floods, which began on August 19, resulted in the tragic deaths of around 31 individuals due to landslides and drowning, with over 100,000 people displaced and seeking refuge in relief camps.

In a voice message, Pradyot announced that the aid would be provided from his personal funds, separate from any government or Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) resources. “If anyone died due to the floods and landslides during this period, I will personally give Rs 50,000 to each family of the deceased,” he stated.

Pradyot also called on the TTAADC and Tripura Government to provide compensation for those who have lost homes, livestock, and cultivated lands due to the disaster. Previously, he contributed Rs 10 lakh towards flood relief efforts.
