Four Bihar residents sentenced to 10 years for cannabis smuggling in Tripura

The Additional Sessions Judge Court, Dharmanagar, North Tripura, on Monday, March 10, convicted four Bihar residents in a cannabis smuggling case and sentenced them to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.The case dates back to March 5, 2019, when the Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a search operation on the Humsafar Express at Dharmanagar Railway Station. The search led to the recovery of 29.5 kg of cannabis, which was being transported illegally by the accused.

Following a thorough investigation led by Inspector Suman Sarkar of the Dharmanagar Government Railway Police Station, a charge sheet was filed against the accused—Suresh Mandal, Rajani Mohan Bharati, Punam Devi, and Suniti Devi, all from Bihar.

The court found them guilty and sentenced them to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of ₹1 lakh each. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months of imprisonment.
