Global steel and mining major ArcelorMittal has announced a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to automate and digitally transform its global operations using cloud computing and artificial intelligence capabilities. The collaboration aims to enhance manufacturing efficiency, improve safety standards, strengthen asset reliability, and optimise energy consumption across the company’s worldwide production network.
According to ArcelorMittal, the integration of AWS cloud and AI tools will be embedded directly into its manufacturing processes, enabling advanced data-driven decision-making. The company plans to converge its operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) systems on a secure and scalable AWS infrastructure, allowing greater connectivity from enterprise systems to production floors.
The initiative will leverage industrial Internet of Things (IoT) systems, real-time sensor data, and machine learning models to deploy AI at the point of production. This includes predictive maintenance of equipment, computer vision-based quality control, process optimisation, and the development of digital twins of physical assets and production lines.
As part of the partnership, AWS will also design and implement a comprehensive training programme to support digital and AI skill development among ArcelorMittal’s global workforce, enabling large-scale adoption of advanced technologies.
Company officials said the move represents a major step towards building digitally enabled operations that are safer, more reliable, and more sustainable. ArcelorMittal, which operates in 60 countries and conducts primary steelmaking in 14 nations, continues to position itself at the forefront of industrial innovation through large-scale AI integration.
