Gorkha community celebrates poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya’s 210th birthday

Tapi Darang, MLA of the 38th Pasighat East constituency in Arunachal Pradesh, called on the Gorkha community to preserve and promote their cultural heritage to retain their unique identity. Speaking as the chief guest at the 210th birth anniversary celebration of the legendary poet Bhanu Bhakta Acharya on July 28, Darang highlighted the significance of cultural preservation. The event, held at the Saw Mill area in Pasighat, was organized by the local Gorkha (Nepali) community. Darang acknowledged the Gorkhas’ contributions to the development of Pasighat before Independence and praised the efforts of the Gorkha Sanskriti Suraksha Parishad (GSSP), Pasighat, a registered society. He commended the GSSP for uniting the community and supporting the needy during natural calamities and medical emergencies.

Oken Tayeng, MLA of the 39th Mebo constituency, served as the guest of honor and lauded the Gorkhas of East Siang District for their dedication to preserving and promoting their rich culture and traditions. Addressing the community in Nepali, Tayeng emphasized the importance of maintaining cultural heritage. Tayi Taggu, Deputy Commissioner of East Siang district, attended the event as a special guest. He encouraged Gorkha youth to take pride in their rich cultural heritage and uphold the legacy of bravery and loyalty associated with the Gorkhas.

Er. Arun Kr. Rana, Chief Patron of GSSP, highlighted Bhanu Bhakta Acharya’s life and contributions, urging Gorkha youth to emulate the ideals of the esteemed poet. The event also featured speeches by GSSP President Chandra Thapa, Vice President Toplal Sharma, and General Secretary David Ale. Children from the Gorkha community showcased their rich culture through colorful dance performances.
