Government Prepares Special Roadmap to Boost Tripura’s Agriculture Sector

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, announced on Wednesday plans for a specialized roadmap aimed at enhancing the agricultural sector in Tripura during a state-level program in Agartala. He stated that a team of leading scientists and agricultural experts would conduct soil assessments and analyze local agro-climatic conditions, which will be instrumental in upgrading the state’s agricultural practices. Chauhan mentioned that the Union Budget for 2026 allocates Rs 2 lakh crore annually for the improvement of the panchayat system, culminating in a total of Rs 10 lakh crore over five years. Each panchayat will receive between Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 1.75 crore per year, benefiting the 2.86 lakh panchayats across the country.

In his remarks, he criticized the Congress and CPI(M) for spreading misinformation about new laws, asserting that these claims, which suggest job losses and lack of village development, are false. Chauhan explained that the VB G-RAM-G law provides panchayats the authority to execute infrastructure projects such as building village roads, anganwadi centers, and drainage systems. He also highlighted provisions for unemployment allowances for individuals who are not provided jobs and compensation, including interest, for delays in work exceeding 15 days. Furthermore, he praised the achievements of self-help groups in Tripura, underscoring their importance in empowering women.
