Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Sunday launched the statewide Har Ghar Tiranga campaign from the State Banquet Hall in Itanagar, calling on people to display the national flag and participate in activities aimed at promoting patriotism, unity and civic responsibility.The launch coincided with August Kranti Diwas, marking the Quit India Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942.During the programme, Governor Parnaik and Chief Minister Khandu handed over national flags to youths and joined participants in singing Vande Mataram. Staff artistes of the Department of Art & Culture also presented patriotic performances as part of the fifth edition of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. Addressing the gathering, Governor Parnaik appealed to citizens across the state to proudly hoist the national flag and take part in the campaign. He described Har Ghar Tiranga as “a people’s movement that rekindles patriotism and strengthens emotional integration.”
The Governor said patriotism should not remain limited to words as India works towards the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047. He said it should also be reflected in responsible actions such as respecting the Constitution, protecting public property, caring for the environment and serving society and the nation. Parnaik also recited a self-composed poem on the patriotic spirit of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and spoke about the significance of the national flag as a symbol of India’s unity, sacrifice, aspirations and democratic values. Explaining the symbolism of the Tricolour, he said saffron represents courage and selfless service, white stands for peace, harmony and truth, while green represents prosperity and harmony with nature. The Ashoka Chakra, he said, inspires the country to move forward with justice and righteousness. Recalling the significance of August 9, the Governor said Mahatma Gandhi had launched the Quit India Movement on the same day in 1942 with the call of “Do or Die”. The movement inspired millions of Indians to unite against colonial rule, while the national flag emerged as an important symbol of freedom, resilience and collective national purpose during the struggle for independence. Parnaik also highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s position as the sentinel of India’s eastern frontier and said the people of the state had consistently demonstrated their commitment to national unity and integrity.
He urged schools, colleges, youth organisations, self-help groups and community institutions to organise programmes that promote patriotism, national awareness and civic responsibility. He also encouraged young people to greet each other with “Jai Hind”, describing it as a salutation representing national pride, mutual respect and commitment to the country.The Governor stressed the need to strengthen emotional integration through communication and dialogue. He also called for the preservation and promotion of Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse linguistic and cultural heritage, while advocating greater use of Hindi as a connecting language between different regions under the spirit of *Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat*. He said the Tricolour had inspired generations of Indians, including soldiers guarding the country’s borders, scientists contributing to national development and sportspersons representing India internationally. He expressed confidence that the national flag would continue to inspire courage, unity and excellence as the country moves towards a stronger and more inclusive future. Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign was “far more than a flag-hoisting initiative; it is a nationwide endeavour to deepen patriotism, strengthen national unity and foster a stronger bond with the values that define India.” Khandu said the Tricolour remained a symbol of courage, sacrifice and dedication and honoured the contribution of countless freedom fighters who fought for India’s independence. He added that the flag also reminded citizens of their responsibility to uphold democracy, unity and progress.
