Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath spoke about the Gyanvapi mosque case and asked what Trishul (trishul) was doing on the mosque premises. He said Muslim petitioners should come forward with a proposal to right a “historical wrong”.
The comments came days after the Allahabad High Court reserved its verdict till August 3 in a petition challenging a district court order directing the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a survey to determine whether the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi was built on the temple.
Talking to the news agency ANI, Adityanath said the government wants to solve long-standing problems.
“If we call it a mosque, there will be a problem … What is the trishul doing in the mosque? We didn’t. There is a jyotirlinga and there are gods,” he says.
“I think there should be a proposal from the Muslim side to correct the historical blunder. We want to resolve this mistake,” the chief minister added.
Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha national president, Swami Chakrapani Maharaj, supported Adityanath’s comments on the Muslim side to bring a resolution on Gnanabapi. He said it is a good opportunity to convey the message of brotherhood and amity to the Muslim applicants.
