HDFC ERGO to execute Pradhan Mantri Fasal BimaYojana for farmers in Assam

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company, India’s leading private sector general insurance company, has been authorised by the Government of Assam to implement the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for loanee and non-loanee farmers in the districts of Cachar, Lakhimpur, Udalguri and Tinsukia for the Rabi, 2023 season.

The PMFBY scheme protects farmers from crop yield losses due to various external risks like cyclones, hailstorms, floods, cyclonic rains, unseasonal rains, cloud bursts, and natural fires. The state government plans to conduct Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) on notified crops in areas for a scheme to determine yield loss. If yield data is low, farmers will be considered to have suffered a shortfall in their yield, with claims payable to them.

The PMFBY scheme offers insurance coverage for all stages of the crop cycle, including pre-sowing, harvesting, and post-harvest risks, approved by the Department of Agriculture, Government of Assam. Farmers in Cachar, Lakhimpur, Udalguri, and Tinsukiacan can obtain insurance cover under the PMFBY scheme for their crops by contacting their banks, Common Service Centres, or authorized HDFC ERGO agents. The validity period details can be found on the Department of Agriculture’s website, and farmers can also self-enroll in the scheme through the farmers App.
