90% don’t seek help for depression; stigma cited

People with depression do not seek help because of the stigma attached to it and the belief they will recover on their own, doctors, psychotherapists and counsellors said on Sunday at a session on depression. “According to the national mental health survey of 2016-17, about 90 per cent people in Bengal do not seek help… we found that out during a door-to-door survey,” psychiatrist Rajarshi Neogi, an assistant professor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, said. “The treatment gap in India is 85.2 per cent. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd said on Friday it had received an approval from India's drugs regulator to make and sell oral antiviral drug favipiravir for treating mild-to-moderate COVID-19 patients in the country. The Mumbai-based drugmaker said the approval was part of government's accelerated approval process and the drug would be for "restricted emergency use" in the country. Over 15k samples collected in 24 hours for testing Covid-19

Over 15,000 samples were collected for testing coronavirus in the national capital within a 24-hour span, a senior official said on Friday. A total of 7,040 samples were collected for rapid antigen test and 7,972 samples were collected for the RT-PCR test for coronavirus on Thursday, the official said. The Delhi government commenced Covid-19 testing through rapid antigen methodology at 193 centres on Thursday.
