UK PM ‘still in charge’ while in hospital with coronavirus

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was in hospital on Monday undergoing tests after suffering "persistent" symptoms of coronavirus for 10 days, but colleagues insisted he remains in charge of the government. The Conservative leader announced on March 27 that he had tested positive for COVID-19, and has been self-isolating in his flat above Downing Street ever since. On Sunday evening, on the advice of his doctor, the 55-year-old was admitted to hospital for tests in what his office said was a "precautionary step". He still has a high temperature among other symptoms, officials say.

The worldwide number of officially confirmed fatalities from the novel coronavirus rose to 53,693 yesterday. More than 1,035,380 declared cases have been registered in 188 countries and territories. North Korea insists it is free of coronavirus

North Korea remains totally free of the coronavirus, a senior health official in Pyongyang has insisted, despite mounting scepticism overseas as confirmed global infections near one million. The already isolated, nuclear-armed North quickly shut down its borders in January after the virus was first detected in neighbouring China, and imposed strict containment measures. Pak Myong Su, director of the anti-epidemic department of the North's Central Emergency Anti-epidemic Headquarters, insisted that the efforts had been completely successful.
