India has so far about 0.2 COVID-19 deaths per lakh population as against the global figure of 4.1, the Union health ministry said as the number of fatalities due to coronavirus infection in the country rose to 3,163 on Tuesday and the total cases reached 1,01,139.Also, a record number of 1,08,233 samples were tested for COVID-19 on Monday in the country. So far a total of 24,25,742 samples have been tested, the ministry said.Referring to data from WHO situation report-119, the ministry said 3,11,847 COVID-19 mortalities have been reported till Tuesday worldwide which is about 4.1 deaths per lakh population.

A Chinese laboratory has been developing a drug it believes has the power to bring the coronavirus pandemic to a halt.The outbreak first emerged in China late last year before spreading across the world, prompting an international race to find treatments and vaccines.A drug being tested by scientists at China's prestigious Peking University could not only shorten the recovery time for those infected, but even offer short-term immunity from the virus, researchers say. Delhi's coronavirus total rose to 8,895 cases after a single-day spike of 425. No coronavirus patient died on Thursday, but the number of deaths jumped from 115 to 123 as the government took into account cases that were not reported before.In the last 24 hours, the Delhi government data says, 473 people were either cured or migrated. With the new addition, the total of those discharged reached 3,518.The total active cases in the national capital is now 5,254.

The number of active cases of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh went up to 1,800 on Saturday, while nearly 1,400 people have been discharged so far, a senior official said.Principal Secretary, Health, Amit Mohan Prasad said the national recovery percentage was 30 per cent but the figure was 43 per cent in Uttar Pradesh."It is a matter of satisfaction that people are recovering and returning home," he said.

The number of coronavirus cases in the Border Security Force (BSF) jumped to 223 today after 30 more personnel tested positive for coronavirus. An inmate of the Central Jail in Uttar Pradesh's Agra has tested positive for coronavirus. This is possibly the first case of a convict being infected with the deadly virus in the state. 14 inmates who were in close contact with the convict have been quarantined after he tested positive.Prison guards and other jail staff who came in contact with the prisoner are being identified and isolated.The inmate was taken to the hospital on Sunday with high blood pressure and symptoms of brain stroke. Coronavirus has infected around 548 doctors, nurses and paramedics across the country so far, according to data maintained by the Centre, official sources said on Wednesday.The figure does not include field workers, ward boys, sanitation workers, security guards, lab attendants, peons, laundry and kitchen staff among others.According to an official source, it has not been ascertained from where these doctors, nurses and paramedic staff have acquired the infection.

The Delhi High Court today sought the Centre's response on a plea claiming that outstation non-coronavirus patients who had come for treatment at AIIMS are not being provided medication from the hospital''s pharmacy anymore due to the lockdown.A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rajnish Bhatnagar issued notice to the Centre and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) seeking their stand on the petition which wants medications for these patients till the time the lockdown continues.The plea said the patients had come to Delhi for treatment at AIIMS and were presently living in night shelters in the national capital.
