Eminent poet and Jnanpith awardee Padma Shri Neelmani Phookan died of heart attack at GMCH.
The Chief Minister of Assam could not attend the funeral as he was in New Delhi following the schedule. He paid tribute to the eminent poet in a post saying, “I am saddened to hear of the death of a shining star who blessed the society of Assam with his literary creations. His death is an irreparable loss to Assam and Assamese national identity. I wish him eternal peace and condolences to the bereaved family. The last rites will be held with full state honors.”
Besides the Chief Minister, other ministers of Assam also paid tributes to the educationist and poet on his death.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also mourned the death of educationist and poet Neelmani Phukan, noted Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. He noted, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of a sage whose unique touch has enriched the field of Assamese poetry and literature, whose sincere presence has delighted our hearts and souls. and the Indian literary world.”
