History of World Oceans Day

About 70 percent of the world is water. Although very few of them are drinkable, However, most of the world’s water sources are oceans. Everyone knows that the earth is made up of four oceans. World Oceans Day is celebrated by spreading the importance of conserving these vast oceans. World Oceans Day is celebrated on June 8 every year. This year, this day will be observed on Saturday.

History of World Oceans Day 
In 1987, the Brundtland Commission noted in their report that the importance of the ocean was considered to be much less important than other sectors. In 1992, World Ocean Day was demanded to highlight the importance of oceans. Later in 2004, the United Nations officially recognized June 8 as World Oceans Day.

The significance of World Oceans Day
Oceans provide half of Earth’s oxygen. This day is observed to protect sea water from environmental pollution. The significance of observing this day is to maintain the oceans properly so that marine life can live properly. Not only that, the tourism industry centered around the oceans has developed in different places to ensure that its development is done properly.
