Assam, mega tree plantation drive has started for creating another Guinness world record in the state, 3.5 lakhs saplings were distributed for the drive by Assam environment and forest minister Chandramohan Patowary.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Today, the saplings were distributed and through this, we are making an attempt to create a record of the highest number of seedlings distributed at a single venue.”
He added, “As saplings are being planted in non-forest areas, it will help increase green cover. Also, we are distributing saplings of trees with commercial value and this will help boost the local economy.”
The Assam CM has also announced about undertaking three crore seedlings for next year and the drive to be continued till 2023-2024.
