The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for Tripura from July 30 to August 1, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the state in the coming days.
In a press statement, IMD Agartala detailed the weather conditions leading to the alerts. The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Jaisalmer, Ajmer, Gwalior, Churk, Balasore, and extends east-southeastward to the northeast Bay of Bengal, reaching up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. Additionally, cyclonic circulations over northeast Assam and neighboring areas between 1.5 and 3.1 km above mean sea level, as well as another over Bangladesh at 3.1 km above mean sea level, are influencing the weather in Tripura.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Tripura,” the statement read. On July 30, isolated places in the South District are expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall. A yellow alert has been issued for Gomati, Sepahijala, and Dhalai districts, while an orange alert has been issued for the South District.
On August 1, the IMD has also issued yellow alerts for West Tripura, Gomati, Sepahijala, and Dhalai districts, and maintained the orange alert for the South District.
