Kolkata’s growing comfort with quick commerce was underscored this year as Instamart reported strong everyday usage paired with festive surges and premium purchases in its annual consumer trends report, How India Instamarted 2025. The platform revealed that one Kolkata user placed more than 1,200 orders in a year, signalling deep integration of app-based deliveries into routine life. Another buyer spent ₹1.99 lakh in a single order, while gold coins and affordable electronics ranked among the top premium products.
Daily orders showcased a balanced trend, with biscuits, crackers, chips, baby wipes, skincare, frozen foods and home-care items dominating shopping carts. Seasonal peaks were driven by rainwear, puja essentials and children’s confectionery. Kitchen staples including meat, eggs, sauces, vegetables and cooking oils also saw strong traction.
In Kolkata, quick commerce has evolved into a lifestyle extension rather than a convenience add-on. Industry observers note that the city’s blend of tradition and modernity has enabled steady adoption, with families increasingly turning to Instamart for both routine necessities and festival-time preparations. The trend reflects a structured yet value-conscious market that welcomes premium purchases without abandoning daily essentials. Instamart’s Chief Business Officer Hari Kumar Gopinathan said quick commerce now spans urgent needs, indulgences and planned purchases. Nationally, milk led the charts, while Hyderabad recorded the costliest single cart at ₹4.3 lakh. All insights are based on orders placed across 128 cities between January and November 2025.
