The Arunachal Test Championship commenced today at DPS Jullang, marking a historic moment as the state hosts its first-ever tournament played in a test match format. The tournament was officially inaugurated by Shri Gangte Vijay, Treasurer of the United Naharlagun Cricket Club (UNCC), in the presence of notable figures including Ms. Kipa Mero, Chairperson of Kipa Mero Women Cricket Club, and Miss Kipa Anu and Gyammar Omi from UNCC. The opening match featured Itanagar Cricket Club (ICCC) going up against Caden Cricket Club (CCC). ICCC won the toss and opted to bat first, starting strong with their openers scoring 46 runs in 12 overs before a run-out ended their partnership. However, a collapse followed, with ICCC losing five wickets for just 110 runs, putting CCC in a dominant position.
Yet, Ankit Gupta and Rakesh Kumar turned the tide for ICCC, forming a solid sixth-wicket partnership that added 86 runs. Ankit scored an impressive 68 runs off 85 balls, hitting eight fours and one six. Rakesh Kumar continued to impress, later teaming up with Rupesh Mishra to contribute another 100 runs for the eighth wicket. Rakesh remained unbeaten on 84 runs from 136 balls, while Rupesh scored 41 runs before being bowled by leg spinner Loli Yangfo. ICCC concluded their innings at 296 runs in 75 overs. On the bowling side, Loli Yangfo delivered a stellar performance, claiming five wickets for 53 runs in 16 overs. Nabam Tempo and Kamsha Yangfo supported with two wickets each. In response, CCC struggled, losing four crucial wickets for just 58 runs at stumps. The second day of the match is set to resume tomorrow, promising an exciting continuation of this inaugural tournament.
