India, Australian governments discuss health workforce training and skill pathways

The Indian Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship hosted a roundtable on “Enhancing Health Workforce Training and Skill Pathways” in New Delhi on August 21, 2023. The event featured Hon. Mark Butler MP, Australian Minister for Health and Aged Care, and Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Honorable Minister Butler congratulated India on its highly effective G20 presidency and underscored India’s pivotal role in driving global progress. He quoted that for every 25 persons, 1 is Indian in Australia as on date and thus Indian Diaspora has become quite an integral part for Australian economy.

The roundtable involved Indian and Australian officials from various ministries, including the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Commerce, and External Affairs. Australian officials from the Department of Health and Aged Care, Home Affairs, Education, and Austrade represented the Australian Government. Industry bodies and private sector entities like CII, ApolloMed Skills, and Lourde Academy further enriched discussions. The roundtable focused on the demand for healthcare and care workers in both countries, highlighting their potential as preferred sources of skilled talent in the sector.
