India Successfully Launches Navigation Satellite Enhancing NavIC System

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched the NVS-02 navigation satellite into orbit using the GSLV-F15 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. This mission marks ISRO’s 100th launch and significantly enhances the country’s Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC) system, which aims to provide accurate positioning services over India and its surrounding regions.

NavIC serves as India’s alternative to global navigation systems such as the U.S. GPS, China’s BeiDou, Europe’s Galileo, and Russia’s GLONASS. The successful deployment of NVS-02 underscores India’s growing capabilities in space technology and its commitment to strengthening indigenous infrastructure.

The country plans to conduct 30 additional missions by March 2025, further solidifying its position in the global space industry, which is currently led by the United States and China. Jitendra Singh, India’s Minister of Science and Technology, highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting its importance in enhancing national security and technological self-reliance.
