Indian Army to Replace Pack Mules with Robotic Dogs

The Indian Army is set to modernize its logistics by replacing approximately 4,000 pack mules with AI-powered robotic dogs. These robotic canines are designed to navigate challenging terrains, including stairs and extreme conditions, without the need for traditional training or sustenance. However, they currently have a carrying capacity of 15 kg, compared to a mule’s 80 kg.

This shift reflects a broader move towards integrating advanced technology, such as robots and drones, into military operations. Despite the practical advantages, there is a sentimental attachment to the mules among soldiers, given their longstanding reliability and service. Notably, mules like Pedongi and the British Army mascot Jimson are remembered for their contributions.
