Indian Railways Hits “Net Zero” Milestone; Jind-Sonipat Route Hosts Debut Eco-Friendly Voyage

In a significant leap toward sustainable transport, Indian Railways successfully conducted the first trial run of a hydrogen-powered train on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana today. Part of the “Hydrogen for Heritage” project, these trains emit only water vapor and are designed to replace aging diesel locomotives on scenic and high-traffic heritage lines. Railway officials confirmed that if the trials succeed over the next 30 days, commercial operations will begin on eight heritage routes by the end of the year.
