IndiaSkills 2024 promotes gender equality in traditionally male-dominated trades

IndiaSkills 2024, currently underway in Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, is witnessing a groundbreaking shift as over 170 women defy stereotypes by excelling in traditionally male-dominated trades. With female participants competing head-to-head with their male counterparts, the event showcases the nation’s commitment to empowering women in the workforce.This year’s competition, running from May 15th to 19th, boasts a significant turnout, with 900+ candidates from 30+ states and Union Territories vying for top honors across 61 skills.

 Notably, women are making their mark in sectors such as Logistics & Freight Forwarding, Web Technologies, and Fashion Technology, challenging industry norms and fostering inclusivity.Kirteeparna Sadangi, hailing from Odisha, epitomizes this spirit of determination, drawing inspiration from past competitors to set her sights on international recognition.”If I get the chance to jet off to France, I am determined to paint our tricolour proud on the global stage,” she affirmed.In addition to traditional trades, emerging sectors like Autonomous Mobile Robotics and Cloud Computing are gaining momentum, reflecting India’s embrace of innovation and technological advancement. Winners of IndiaSkills 2024 will undergo intensive training to represent the nation at the prestigious WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France, later this year.

Organized by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), IndiaSkills 2024 aligns vocational training with global standards, offering participants opportunities to creditize their learning outcomes. Supported by over 400 industry and academic partners, including Toyota Kirloskar and Loreal, the event highlights India’s commitment to fostering diversity and excellence in vocational education.
