Innovative AI-based animal care devices demonstrated at Central Cattle Breeding Farm in Nirjuli

The Central Cattle Breeding Farm in Nirjuli became a hub of innovation on August 9, 2024, as it hosted a demonstration of cutting-edge animal care devices. Organized by the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) cell of NERIST in collaboration with Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (AMTRON), the event attracted over 40 students from NERIST, offering them a glimpse into the future of veterinary technology. The demonstration highlighted two AI-driven devices designed to revolutionize animal health management in rural areas. Dr. Taking Gammi, Veterinary Officer at the Central Cattle Breeding Farm, along with AI expert Kalpesh Bhosale, showcased:

An AI-based system for detecting bacterial and fungal infections in animal wounds. A smart inspection device with mobile app integration for real-time monitoring of bovine uterine health, which aids in early infection detection and guided artificial insemination. Prof. Narendranath S, Director of NERIST, underscored the importance of integrating artificial intelligence into animal healthcare, emphasizing its potential to bridge technology with rural development. He stressed that such initiatives are crucial for advancing the welfare of livestock, which plays a significant role in the financial stability of farmers.

Dr. Danjan Longri, Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, and Dairy Development, Arunachal Pradesh, echoed these sentiments, advocating for the widespread adoption of these technological advancements in veterinary practices. The event also saw active participation from Dr. T. Patel, Regional Coordinator of UBA NERIST, and Dr. M. Mishra, Coordinator of UBA NERIST, both of whom emphasized the importance of sustainable, technology-driven solutions for rural development.
