Security forces in Manipur have intensified their ongoing crackdown against militant elements, resulting in the arrest of a cadre belonging to the proscribed outfit, the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive), commonly known as PREPAK (PRO). The operation, conducted on Sunday, April 19, marks a significant push by authorities to stabilize the region amidst persistent security challenges.
The arrested militant has been identified as 25-year-old Sorokhaibam Pathou Meitei, a resident of Chairen Mangjing in the Moirang area of Bishnupur district. Officials confirmed that the individual was taken into custody as part of targeted efforts to disrupt the activities of insurgent groups operating within the state.
In a separate tactical operation, security forces successfully dismantled three illegal bunkers located between the Yaolen and Mongkot Chepu hill ranges under the jurisdiction of the Litan Police Station in the Ukhrul district. The destruction of these fortifications is being viewed as a critical step in neutralizing threats in volatile areas, as such structures are frequently used to sustain tensions and facilitate insurgent movement.
Complementing these specific actions, the state’s security apparatus has broadened its scope of operations. Security forces are continuing to conduct rigorous search operations and area domination exercises across fringe and vulnerable districts. As part of these intensified security measures, authorities have established 115 naka (checkpoints) across various hill and valley regions. These checkpoints are designed to strictly monitor movement and enforce law and order.
The enforcement efforts have also extended to civilian compliance; during the recent operations, 26 individuals were detained for allegedly violating curfew restrictions. As the situation remains fluid, officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and preventing any escalation of violence, emphasizing that the ongoing area domination and search operations are essential to ensuring the safety and security of the public across the state.
