Tripura is set to witness the realization of a long-anticipated dream as its international-standard cricket stadium nears completion. The Rs 185-crore project, initiated in 2017, has reached 80% of civil construction, according to Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) President Tapan Lodh. “The cricket ground has already been handed over to TCA, and local tournaments have begun,” Lodh said. However, pending work includes the installation of high-mast LED lights, power metal lighting, and final steelwork on the top floor. The project is expected to be fully completed by July next year.
Lodh highlighted Tripura’s cricket journey, which began in the 1970s, with participation in the Ranji Trophy starting in the late 1980s. “Tripura is now part of the elite group in many national tournaments,” he added. The project, prioritized after recommendations from the Lodha Commission, faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic but has since resumed. Lodh expressed gratitude to the state government and Chief Minister for their support.
Once completed, the 22,000-seat stadium at Narsinghgarh is expected to host major tournaments, including Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, pending approval from the IPL authorities and BCCI. This development marks a major milestone in Tripura’s cricketing future.
