Itanagar promises to keep working toward a sustainable city after cleaning up

The Gandhi Market area, the grounds of the Police Station, and the Legi complex were among the major Itanagar venues where a massive social service and river cleanup program was held. The Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) and Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Ward No-10 led the effort, which recruited more than 150 volunteers. Itanagar Smart City, the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society, and Rajiv Gandhi University’s (RGU) NSS unit also participated. Women police officers, firefighters, police officers, and local citizens were among the participants.

The Yagamso River near the Legi section, which was severely contaminated by municipal solid waste, was the main area of concern. Volunteers put up a lot of effort to clear the area of collected trash and junk. An awareness program was organized after the cleanup. Corporator Yukar Yaro received praise from Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom for her continued dedication to maintaining the cleanliness of Ward No-10. He called for public collaboration in building a crime-free and environmentally sustainable Itanagar and threatened harsh measures against drug misuse and trash.

Rohit Rajbir Singh, the Capital Superintendent of Police (SP), reiterated these views and emphasized the significance of environmentally friendly cleaning methods. Speaking at the event, Koj Tade Gombo of the OC Fire Station discussed fire safety issues and the department’s readiness plans. Keyom Doni, the vice chairman of YMCR, had concerns regarding the amount of residential rubbish that is collected. Doni clarified that although YMCR can plan cleanups and spread awareness, “each person bears the ultimate responsibility.” To save our ecosystem, we must band together. Certificates of participation were given to RGU NSS students who took part.
