Itanagar is set to transform its urban transport landscape with the upcoming installation of ropeways and the introduction of electric buses, according to recent announcements by city officials. Tamme Phassang, Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), revealed that discussions for the city’s first ropeway system are nearing completion. The IMC is currently in talks with companies from Hyderabad and Gujarat to finalize the installation. The proposed ropeway will offer a scenic and efficient route connecting key locations, including Lobi in Division 4, the Secretariat, Ganga Market, and Chimpu.
In addition to the ropeway, the IMC is collaborating with Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) to introduce electric buses in Itanagar. The plan, which has been in development for over a year, involves deploying 10 electric buses on a trial basis. The outcome of this trial will influence the future expansion of the electric bus fleet. “These initiatives reflect IMC’s dedication to modernizing Itanagar’s transport infrastructure and promoting sustainable urban mobility,” Mayor Phassang stated.
In a related development, last month marked a significant advancement in India’s educational infrastructure with the inauguration of the country’s first 3D-printed school in Itanagar. The Government Secondary School at Pachin, rebuilt after a fire, was reconstructed using innovative 3D printing technology, completing the project in just two months. This rapid construction highlights the potential of 3D printing to overcome traditional building challenges and could set a new standard for future educational facilities across India.
