Jahangirpuri Violence: Amit Shah orders strict action

9 people including 8 policemen and 1 civilian were injured; Delhi Police has filed a case against the organizers of the Hanuman Janmotsava’s procession for holding rally without permission.

North West Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Usha Rangnani said that an FIR has been registered against the organizers of Saturday evening’s rally under IPC Section 188 (disobedience of order duly communicated by a public servant) and one of them has joined the investigation.

She said that the two other processions were taken out were with permission that was on Saturday. But the other procession was held without permission due to which clashes broke out.

The Delhi Police’s statement on Monday raised some questions as earlier, Usha Rangnani had sent an official message that a case had been filed against members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal for taking out religious processions without permission.

The DCP also said that VHP member Prem Sharma was arrested, but the statement was retracted as the offense was bailable under IPC Section 188 and the person who joined the investigation was released after questioning. The revised statement issued by the police also did not name the VHP and the Bajrang Dal.

Amit Shah orders strict action against the accused:

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana to take strict action on the Jahangirpuri violence where the police has formed a team for a thorough investigation. Amit Shah spoke to Asthana after senior Delhi Police officials presented a report to him on the April 16 incident in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area.
