Jharkhand Cabinet approves 1k pension for transgender community, inclusion in backward classes category

Jharkhand govt. has come up with new decision to provide social security to transgender community and help them to step into the mainstream of society.

The community has been added under the universal pension scheme called Mukhyamantri Rajya Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana. The beneficiaries of the scheme will get 1,000 per month as a financial aid.

To avail the benefits of the scheme an individual needs to get a certificate from the deputy commissioner’s office and must have attained the age of 18 or above and also should possess a voter ID. Transgenders will be also provided with a separate toilet in public toilets and hospitals. They will also get the facilities of backward category-2, if they do not fall under any reservation category.

The decision comes after a proposal of Mukhyamantri Rajya Samajik Suraksha Pension Yojana for transgender people under the social assistance scheme which was approved by the Council of Ministers under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
