The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival has announced its 2023 lineup, featuring over 250 films from October 27 to November 5, including 40 World Premieres, 45 Asia Premieres, and 70+ South Asia Premieres, with over 1000 submissions for the South Asia programme, aiming to showcase contemporary films and new cinematic voices from South Asia.
The festival aims to showcase contemporary films and new cinematic voices from South Asia. The main competition is the South Asia Competition, which showcases breakthrough contemporary South Asian films from debutant and second-time filmmakers from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and diaspora filmmakers from the UK and Germany. A non-competition section features 46 films showcasing the region’s diversity, including works from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, Australia, Germany, the USA, the UK, Poland, and Spain.
At a press conference at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) in Mumbai, prominent board members Anupama Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Rana Daggubati, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Vikramaditya Motwane, Zoya Akhtar, Rohan Sippy, and Ajay Bijli unveiled a carefully curated line-up of global and South Asian cinema. Maitreyee Dasgupta, Co-Director, Jio MAMI, added, “Through the various programmes and competitions, the festival strives to be a destination where filmmakers and audiences feel empowered, heard, and experience the joy of cinema, its impact, and new ideas.”
