Joint operation leads to major drug bust and explosive seizure in Mizoram

In a major operation, Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles seized a substantial cache of explosives and arrested two individuals near Aizawl, according to an official statement released Wednesday. Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team set up a mobile vehicle checkpoint at Lawipu Junction, intercepting a taxi and uncovering 1,000 gelatin sticks, 1,000 detonators, and 20 meters of safety fuse.

In a separate operation on November 11, security forces conducted one of the month’s largest drug busts in Champhai district. Acting on cross-border smuggling intelligence, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police intercepted a vehicle on the Zokhawthar-Melbuk Road. The suspects abandoned a bag and fled; inside, officials found 2.399 kg of methamphetamine valued at ₹7.2 crore. The vehicle and seized drugs have been handed over to Zokhawthar Police for further investigation.

These operations highlight ongoing efforts to curb illegal trafficking in the region.
