K-Pop fever hits Kolkata, regional round winners gear up for semi-finals

The All India K-Pop Contest 2024’s regional round at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre in Bidhannagar saw K-Pop enthusiasts flock to witness 52 participants selected from 1,695 registrations. ‘Krazyones The Flowerknights’ clinched the top spot in the dance category with their electrifying performance of ‘Sugar Rush Ride’ by TXT, while Ancy Irengbam captivated the audience with BoA’s ‘No.1’, securing the first place in the vocal category. Both winners will advance to the semi-finals in New Delhi on October 19, 2024.

Nineteen teams competed, with standout performances from Seraphic, who were first runners-up in the dance category with ‘MANIAC’ by Viviz, and The Moonwalkers, who took second runners-up with ‘Mafia In The Morning’ by Itzy. In the vocal category, Abhipriya Chakraborty and Jaspreet Kaur emerged as first and second runners-up with ‘I Will Go To You Like The First Snow’ by Ailee and ‘Eleven’ by Ive, respectively.

The Kolkata round marked the completion of three out of eleven city rounds, with future rounds scheduled in Itanagar, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Lucknow. The grand finale will be held at New Delhi’s Yashobhoomi on November 23, 2024, offering winners a trip to Korea.Hwang Il Yong, Director of Korean Cultural Centre India, praised the city’s enthusiasm, likening the event to a joyful festival.
