K. Sapdanga highlights success and violations of firecracker ban

Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga has pledged strict action against those who violated the firecracker ban during New Year’s Eve, reaffirming the government’s commitment to upholding the law.Addressing the media on January 2, Sapdanga expressed satisfaction with the high compliance rate, stating, “We are pleased that over 80% of the public respected the firecracker ban and heeded the appeals of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and churches.”Despite the encouraging adherence, Sapdanga lamented isolated violations reported in parts of Aizawl. “It is disappointing that some individuals chose to ignore government orders and community appeals.

However, the scale of violations was significantly lower compared to previous years,” he noted. The Home Minister reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for such defiance, emphasizing that violators would face legal consequences. “We are determined to take action against those who flouted the ban. These measures will continue, and we hope for full compliance in the coming year,” he asserted.

On December 31, 2024, Sapdanga, accompanied by senior officials and community leaders, visited duty posts across Aizawl to monitor the enforcement of the ban. The entourage included DIG (Northern Range) C. Lalthanmawia, Aizawl Deputy Commissioner Lalhriatpuia, SP Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng, and Central YMA President Lalhmachhuana, among others. The visit highlighted the administration’s proactive efforts to maintain order during the celebrations.
