Kahikuchi’s Green Initiative: Horticulture Research Station Celebrates World Environment Day

World environment day 2025 was observed in a befitting manner at the premises of Horticulture Research Station located at Kahikuchi in Guwahati today.  The programme was led by the Chief Scientist of the station Dr. Sunil Kumar Borah in the presence of all the scientists and employees of the station.

At the onset, the Chief Scientist emphasized on the significance of the day and how the existence of mankind was intricately related to plant life. He highlighted the ecosystem services provided by the natural world and urged upon all to abstain from the use of single use plastic in accordance with this year’s theme of the world environment day. Ten seedlings of mahogany plant were planted in the campus of horticulture research station by the scientists and employees to mark the day.

Scientists of the station including Dr. Dhiren Choudhury, Dr. Kusum kr. Deka, Dr. Jayanta Kr. Sharma, Dr. Kaberi Mahanta and Dr. Seema Bhagowati also participated in planting the seedlings. A pledge was also undertaken by everyone present to take care of mother earth and to make the world greener for the future generations.
