Kashmir’s Namda craft revived through Skill India’s Pilot Project

The Namda craft in Kashmir is being revived through Skill India’s Pilot Project, with nearly 2,200 candidates from six districts receiving training. Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has flagged off the first batch of Namda Art products for export to the UK.

The Namda Project exemplifies PM Narendra Modi’s Skill India vision, empowering people and creating new opportunities, as highlighted by MoS Chandrasekhar. The Namda craft initiative has trained 2,200 candidates in six districts of Kashmir, namely Srinagar, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Budgam, and Anantnag, preserving and empowering local weavers and artisans. The project exemplifies the public-private partnership (PPP) model in skill development, collaborating with local industry partners.

The project aims to preserve traditional crafts and empower local weavers and artisans. Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; and Ministry of Electronics and IT, said, “As a small part of this large effort taken by the artisans, and the Handicrafts Sector Skill Council, I wish you all a tremendous amount of success and prosperity of this art, and it is a proud moment for us to achieve this milestone.”
