Khera’s plea opposed by Assam and UP

On Friday, the Assam and Uttar Pradesh governments opposed Congress spokesperson Pawan Kheda’s petition in the Supreme Court.

An FIR was lodged against the Congress leader for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Narendra Gautamdas Modi”. The incident happened during a press conference on 17 February.

The Assam government said that the apology sought by Kheda’s counsel during the hearing of the case was “a tactical presentation to obtain a restraining order without any genuine remorse or repentance”.

Also, as per an available video, Khera’s behavior and words spoken by him were not unintentional. That’s why proper investigation has been demanded from the government.

On Friday, the Assam and Uttar Pradesh governments said they wanted to investigate the cases independently.
