Kohima Police destroy narcotics worth Rs 44.53 crore

In a significant move against drug trafficking, Kohima police destroyed narcotics valued at over Rs 44.53 crore on September 26. The Drug Disposal Committee, under the Inspector General of Police (CID), oversaw the destruction of large quantities of seized narcotics at the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site in Meriema.

The seized substances included 500 soap cases of heroin weighing 5.73 kg, 41 kg of opium packed in 44 packets, and 2,49,400 Yaba tablets. These narcotics were confiscated by the Narcotics Cell during various operations between 2022 and 2023.

Key officials present during the disposal included DIG (CID) Dr. K.P.A Ilyas, IPS, SP (Narcotic) Shinde Suresh Kailashrao, IPS, and SP (Crime) Dr. Mhalo, NPS, along with representatives from the District Court, Kohima Municipal Council, and Kripa Foundation.
