Kohli played against West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli made his debut in the Test format against the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. The right-handed batsman did not perform well in his first Test. He scored only four runs in the first innings and only 19 runs in the entire match. When Kohli came down to bat at number five in the first innings, Fidel Edwards sent him back to the pavilion. In the second innings, the right-handed Kohli scored 15 runs off 54 balls and was finally dismissed again by Fidel Edwards. Scored 4(10) and 15(54) in his 2nd Test innings in India vs WI at Kingston. In the end India won the match by 63 runs.

On this day in 2011, Kohli changed the fortunes of Indian Test cricket as a batsman and captain. He has played 109 Tests so far and has managed to score 28 centuries at an average of 48.72. As Indian captain, Kohli scored 254 against South Africa in Pune in 2019, his highest Test score to date. Comparisons between Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar to break the record set by Tendulkar also increased and the team chose Kohli as the former Indian captain. Virat Kohli was one of the senior batsmen who was criticized for playing in the recently concluded World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval. Kohli failed to reach his half century by one run in the 4th innings of the game. He was dismissed after following a wide delivery at a crucial point in the game and was dismissed.
