Legendary Rabindra Sangeet Singer Sumitra Sen passes away in Kolkata

The popular singer was battling from broncho-pneumonia and was admitted on 21st of December but got discharged three days later, and was taken to her south Kolkata home by her two daughters.

“Mom left us this early morning,” her daughter Srabani Sen wrote in a Facebook post. Both her daughters — Srabani and Indrani — are eminent Rabindra Sangeet singers.

Her family claimed that the singer was suffering from cold in mid of December and her condition turned severe due to her increasing age.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee expressed grievances to the death of the eminent singer. The singer was awarded with ‘Sangeet Mahasamman’ in 2012 by West Bengal govt. Her untimely death is a huge loss to the music world.

Songs sung by her such as Achhe Dukho Achhe Mrityu’, ‘Sakhi Bhabona Kahare Bole’, ‘Tomari Jharnatalar Nirjone’, ‘Megh Bolechhe Jabo Jabo’ were among the hundreds of tracks that entertained Rabindra Sangeet lovers for over 40 years.
