Live grenade in Imphal AR transit camp

Barely two days after a bomb attack that injured a security personnel on sentry duty, a live Chinese hand grenade was found lying inside the transit camp of Assam Rifles in Imphal on Friday morning.

The hand grenade was found near a water reservoir inside the camp around 8 am on Friday.

Personnel of state police bomb detection and disposal squad retrieved the hand grenade after defusing it. The same was later disposed of at a safe place in Imphal.

The recovery of the hand grenade was barely two days after a personnel of 43 Assam Rifles sustained injuries when suspected cadres of a rebel group lobbed a hand grenade at the main entrance gate of the transit camp in Imphal’s Minuthong on March 10 night.

The injured personnel was admitted at Leimakhong Army hospital with splinter injuries on his left arm

The Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK)-Pro had owned up for the bomb attack. In a statement e-mailed to the media houses in Imphal, the rebel group claimed the blast was in response to a recent homecoming “drama” and to show that the outfit has the ability to strike at any place any time.

Few days ago, 20 cadres of different underground groups including one from the outfit (PREPAK-Pro) laid down arms before the chief minister of the state.

The rebel group termed it as “drama” while asserting that it will have no impact on the armed groups struggling to regain Manipur’s lost sovereignty.
