LPG Price Cut: Govt Slashes Cost Of Cooking Gas By Rs 200/Cylinder

The Central govt. has announced a cut down in the prices of 14kg LPG cooking gas by rupees 200 under the Ujjwala Scheme. The move comes after a Union Cabinet meeting held on 29th of August. The decision will come into effect from 30th of August 2023.

Govt. has also approved the additional subsidy of rupees 200 under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme. The beneficiaries now can avail the total reduction of rupees 400 in a cooking gas. Free gas connection will also be provided to 75 lakh women under the scheme. These women will also get the gas burner, first cooking gas cylinder, and pipe free of cost, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said.

The Union Cabinet’s move to reduce the costs of LPG cooking gas comes ahead of Assembly elections which are set to be held in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram later this year and the lok sabha elections next year.

Denying the fact that the price cut had anything to do with the upcoming polls, Thakur said, “PM Modi has decided ₹200 reduction in the price of domestic LPG cylinders, for all users…this is a gift from PM Narendra Modi, to the women of the country, during the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Onam.”
