A special public hearing will be organised in Kolasib district of Mizoram to address the grievances of women as part of the International Women’s Day observance this year.According to a press release issued by the Mizoram State Commission for Women, a “Maha Jan Sunwai” (public hearing) will be held to provide a platform for women who are facing different kinds of problems and harassment to present their complaints and seek legal support.The programme will be held on March 10, 2026, in Kolasib district. The initiative is being organised in coordination with the National Commission for Women, New Delhi, which has planned similar hearings across the country to mark International Women’s Day.
In Kolasib, the programme will be jointly organised by the Mizoram State Commission for Women, the Kolasib Deputy Commissioner’s office, the Superintendent of Police, the District Legal Services Authority, and the Women and Child Development Department.Prof. Rinpari Ralte, Member of the Mizoram State Commission for Women, will attend and take part in the hearing.Officials said that women who have faced different forms of injustice will be able to submit complaints during the programme. The hearing will focus on cases such as domestic violence, harassment within the family, problems arising from marital disputes, harassment at the workplace, and other forms of discrimination or exploitation faced by women.
As the programme will function as a free legal public hearing, women can submit their complaints in writing. Complaints can be submitted to the District Programme Officer of the Women and Child Development Department, the Child Development Project Officer, the Deputy Commissioner, or the Superintendent of Police.
