MakeMyTrip rolls out predictive seat forecast tool to revolutionise train booking experience

Online travel giant MakeMyTrip has launched a new AI-driven Seat Availability Forecast feature to help Indian train passengers better plan their journeys. The feature uses years of historical booking data combined with real-time demand trends to predict when train seats are likely to be sold out, addressing a major concern for travellers who often wait too long to confirm plans.

Data from MakeMyTrip reveals that around 70% of users booking across multiple sessions end up with waitlisted tickets due to late confirmations. The new predictive tool is integrated into the train booking flow on both the MakeMyTrip app and website, giving users timely insights to book confidently. Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, said, “Seat Availability Forecast is rooted in data science and designed to solve a real planning challenge for millions of users.”

A major railway hub with high seasonal travel demand, users are expected to benefit significantly from this innovation. With summer vacation and festive bookings often filling up quickly, the forecast tool and complementary Sold-out Alerts are likely to reduce uncertainty and waitlisting woes for the city’s rail commuters. MakeMyTrip continues to build on its legacy of rail tech innovations, aiming to make train travel more predictable and seamless across India.
