MakeMyTrip’s report reveals Indian travelers’ growing appetite for International adventures

MakeMyTrip, India’s leading online travel company, has unveiled its latest report, “How India Travels Abroad,” covering trends from June 2023 to May 2024. The report highlights a 32% surge in Indians taking two or more international trips annually, reflecting the country’s increasing enthusiasm for global travel. Notably, 50% of international bookings are made less than 14 days before departure, indicating a rise in impulsive travel habits.

Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, noted the growing confidence among Indians to explore new destinations, fueled by rising incomes and greater exposure to global cultures. The report identifies UAE, Thailand, and the USA as top destinations, while Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Bhutan are emerging hotspots. Luxury travel is also on the rise, with a 10% increase in business class flight searches.

In Kolkata, there is a significant interest in leisure travel, particularly to Thailand, with 44% of international travelers from West Bengal favoring this destination. Additionally, Kolkata travelers are known for their spontaneous booking patterns, contributing to the growing trend of last-minute travel decisions.
