The Bengal chief minister was seen playing with a football at the event where she said the slogan ‘Khela Hobe’, which became an anthem of sorts during the state assembly election that took place earlier this year, will be popular across India.

“Believe it or not, Khela Hobe has become very popular. The slogan was raised in Parliament too and soon it’ll be popular across India,” Mamata Banerjee said at the event.

The ‘Khela Hobe’ fever engulfed the polling season during the West Bengal Assembly election that saw the Trinamool Congress storming back to power in the state.

The TMC now wants to take the Khela Hobe slogan-turned-song out of Bengal and make its presence felt all over the country.

Debangshu Bhattacharjee, the TMC leader who wrote the viral song, had earlier stated that if Mamata Banerjee goes to Delhi, so will the song. This statement came against the backdrop of Mamata Banerjee pitching for a national front to take on Narendra Modi-lead NDA in 2024.

Banerjee had earlier announced that August 16 will be observed as the “Khela Hobe Diwas” in memory of the 16 people who lost their lives in a stampede during 1980 match at the iconic Eden Gardens.

Meanwhile, the TMC is likely to use the “Khela Hobe” campaign slogan in Tripura, hoping for a similar thunderous victory as in Bengal polls.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC), after returning to power in West Bengal for the third consecutive term with a sweeping victory in the recent assembly elections, is now focusing on Tripura where assembly polls are due in 2023.
