Manipal Hospitals highlights advances in Gynaecologic Oncology, Neuro-Surgery at Asansol session

Addressing the growing burden of women’s cancers and complex neurological disorders in Eastern India, Manipal Hospitals on Thursday organised an interactive medical awareness session in Asansol under its flagship programme Anveshana – Medical Education for Media.

The session was led by Dr Arunava Roy, Head of Department and Senior Consultant in Gynaecologic Oncology, and Dr Sunandan Basu, Senior Consultant in Neuro-Surgery. The experts discussed emerging disease trends, the importance of early diagnosis and the role of advanced, technology-driven treatment in improving patient outcomes. Doctors pointed out that gynaecologic cancers and neurological conditions such as brain and spinal tumours, stroke-related complications and traumatic brain injuries are often detected at advanced stages due to lack of awareness and delayed medical attention. They stressed that timely intervention, multidisciplinary care and access to specialised surgical techniques can significantly improve survival rates and quality of life.

Speaking on women’s cancers, Dr Roy underlined the need for regular screening and early consultation to tackle cancers of the cervix, ovary and uterus. Dr Basu highlighted recent advances in neuroimaging and minimally invasive neurosurgical procedures that have improved safety and recovery for patients with complex cranial and spinal conditions. Rooted in the idea of “seeking and discovery,” Anveshana has been conducted across several cities in Eastern India and now extends to Asansol, aiming to empower media with credible medical information and encourage early health-seeking behaviour in regional communities.
