Max pick-up truck overturns, 30 workers injured in Maratha Ground crash

A serious accident near Maratha Ground today resulted in the injury of 30 workers when a Max pick-up truck from the Tawang Forest Division overturned. The incident occurred between 2:30 and 3:00 PM while the overloaded vehicle was transporting workers back from a plantation drive.

The Tawang Forest Division has attributed the accident to brake failure. However, the Mon Tawang Vigilance has raised concerns that overloading could be the main factor, noting that the department routinely exceeds safety limits by transporting over 40 workers in a single Max pick-up, violating transportation regulations.

According to medical reports, all 30 injured workers were examined for injuries. Ten individuals, including Sang Norbu from Khobleteng village, have been admitted to Khando Drowa Zangmo District Hospital in Tawang. Norbu has been referred to the military hospital at Teli for further treatment.

In response to the accident, Tawang DFO Piyush Gaikwad, who was en route from a meeting in Itanagar, has distributed financial aid of ₹5,000 to each injured worker. He also assured that all medical expenses would be covered upon presentation of medical bills.
