The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was honoured with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) Award for being the top-performing Ministry during the AKAM period, earlier this month. This recognition stemmed from the diverse activities undertaken by the Ministry within India and abroad through its Missions. These activities predominantly centred around increased participation of the Indian diaspora in Mission-related endeavours, fostering cultural ties with global partners.
The MEA organized a global yoga celebration for Amrit Mahotsav, promoting a healthy lifestyle and recovery from the pandemic through workshops, training sessions, and special talks. The MEA collaborated with 75 institutes to share Indian foreign policy insights with youth, including the Videsh Niti Lecture Series. Retired ambassadors delivered lectures, inspiring students to pursue careers in the Indian Foreign Services. India also organized the ‘Guardian Yoga Ring’ exercise.
During AKAM week, Indian Missions engaged the diaspora in foreign countries through community events like tree plantations, sports competitions, art & craft contests, and cycle rallies. The MEA celebrated Amrit Mahotsav by lighting landmark monuments worldwide in the Indian tricolor, including the Sydney Opera House, Burj Khalifa, and Empire State Building. These initiatives enhanced India’s global image and earned it recognition as the best-performing Ministry.
