Doctors at Gurugram-based Medanta have stressed the importance of liver health awareness and healthy lifestyle practices amid a growing rise in liver-related diseases across the country. The specialists said early diagnosis and preventive care are crucial as many liver conditions progress silently and show symptoms only after significant damage has occurred. Dr. Swapnil Dhampalwar, Senior Consultant, Hepatology at Medanta Gurugram, said people often ignore symptoms such as persistent fatigue, abdominal discomfort, unexplained weight changes and loss of appetite. “Timely diagnosis through regular health check-ups and blood tests can help detect liver disease early and prevent long-term complications,” he said.
The doctors highlighted that conditions such as fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, alcohol-associated liver disease, cirrhosis and liver cancer are rising steadily due to sedentary lifestyles, obesity, diabetes, unhealthy eating habits and excessive alcohol consumption. They advised people to adopt balanced diets, regular exercise, adequate hydration and proper sleep instead of depending on detox supplements or self-medication. In Aizawl, healthcare awareness campaigns and access to specialised liver consultation services are gaining importance as urban lifestyle changes and processed food consumption continue to increase in Mizoram’s capital. Medical experts said the growing demand for preventive healthcare in Aizawl reflects rising concern among residents over lifestyle-related diseases.
Medanta has also signed an MoU with the Government of Mizoram under the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), enabling cashless treatment for registered beneficiaries. Residents of Aizawl and nearby areas can consult Dr. Dhampalwar on May 26 at Gastro and Liver Centre, Mission Vengthlang, Tlang Veng Road, Aizawl.
