Meghalaya-Assam border disrupt again

In a dispute between Assam-Meghalaya six people were killed, on Tuesday. Among those killed were a forest guard and other residents of Meghalaya.

For enquiry purpose, Assam Police calleda retired High Court judge. Meanwhile, apprehending law, Meghalaya suspended mobile internet services in seven districts for 48 hours from 10.30 am on Tuesday.

However, the Assam Police said a forest department team intercepted the truck in Meghalaya’s West Karbi Anglong district and a mob from the Meghalaya side later attacked state forest guards and policemen, prompting firing from the Assam side to Control the situation.

The Assam government said it would hand over the investigation into the incident to a central or neutral agency and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased. The Sarma-led government also said it has ordered action against several police and forest officials, including the transfer of the district superintendent of police.
