Meghalaya School wins Wipro Earthian award 2020

Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School, Jongksha in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district has won the prestigious Wipro Earthian award 2020.  

Good Shepherd School received the award in a virtually organized function on Saturday due to the pandemic.  The award carries certificates and cash prize.

This award in its 10th year has been constituted by the Wipro Foundation to recognise excellence in sustainability within the education process in schools and colleges in India.  

Baiahunlang Kharahnoh, Ivoreen Kharsahnoh, Naphisabet Suting, Ibakyntiew Kharmulieh, and Tinamary Nongspung along with their mentors Seiborlang Warbah and Teibhalang Warlarpih prepared the winning project on biodiversity.  

“Winning this award has made us realize the need and importance of sustainability and as students, we have a great responsibility towards this,” team member,  BaiahunalngKharsahnoh said.

While congratulating the team members for bringing laurels to the school and to the state, Principal of Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School, Jongksha, Fr. George Jacob, CSC, said that the school places great importance on helping our young students to become responsible citizens of tomorrow and participating in projects like these will help our students to achieve this goal.

Wipro Earthian is one of India’s largest sustainability education programs for schools and colleges. 

The 2020 edition of the program saw over 900 project entries, out of which winning entries from 20 schools and 8 colleges were selected by an independent jury.
